Boxing Herald Chats With Lou DiBella Article By
Lou Dibella has a chat with Boxing Herald following Andre Berto's big "V" in Memphis |
Boxing Herald caught up with Lou DiBella right after Andre Berto's impressive title victory in Memphis, Tennessee. DiBella gives us his thoughts on Berto's performance, and also confirms to Boxing Herald that a Jermain Taylor vs. Jeff Lacy fight is a possibility for November 8th!
BH – Andre Berto just grabbed the title; give me your thoughts on his performance.
LD – I thought it was a terrific performance for a 24 year old kid fighting for his first world title. I think he's got the package to be a great champion. I think you could find a few things that he can still work on, but he was in there with a tough customer. I think he started out a little tight, but when he loosened up, I think you saw what he can do.
BH – That was a tremendous hook that he threw that knocked Rodriguez down.
LD – He has a tremendous amount of talent. He has solid defense as well; I don't like when he lays on the ropes when he doesn't have to. Maybe he knew some things that we didn't know, trying to draw the kid in. I was very impressed, and that hook was a thing of beauty. That kid he fought was a tough, tough customer.
BH – The welterweight division is stacked; there are a lot of possibilities for Berto. Talk about that.
LD – Mosley, Judah, Cintron, there are loads of possibilities. He's only 24 so there is no reason to rush him. Not that Cotto would fight him right now because he's looking for bigger paydays in the immediate future, but Berto is a kid that can beat anybody down the line. The division is loaded with talent; about 10 guys are out there that he could fight. We will work to get the kid paid.
BH – Can you give us a quick Jermain Taylor update?
LD – We are working on some things for Jermain. Look for him to return November 8 on HBO, that's the date we are working on. Guys like Jeff Lacy, so we'll see.
BH – Lou I know you're very busy right now, so I will wrap this up. Thanks for your time.
LD – Thanks, no problem.
