Estrada Wants Arreola! Article By
" I would eat that guy up, it's not even a competition " - - Jason "Big Six" Estrada. A BoxingHerald.com Exclusive Interview |

Heavyweight contender Jason "Big Six" Estrada wasn't impressed in the least with Chris Arreola's recent disqualification win against Chaz Witherspoon. Estrada is coming off of two very impressive wins over Lance Whitaker and Moultrie Witherspoon, both of which were on national television. Estrada's silenced some of his critics with his last effort by knocking out Witherspoon in the 7th round. Estrada is not at all impressed with Chris Arreola, and firmly believes that "The Nightmare" is over-hyped, and overrated. Estrada would like to prove his belief by getting Arreola in the ring in the very near future.
BH – What's up Jason?, I hear you're not very impressed with Chris Arreola's performance the other night.
JE – I am not impressed at all with Chris Arreola. I am not impressed with his skills or the hype that's around him. Is everyone blind? I don't understand; is everyone blind making a big deal out of this guy? I am right in the mix of the heavyweight division right now; I am ready to make my move.
BH - You want a crack at Arreola, Jason?
JE – Would I? Would I? I am asking for a fight with this guy. I was asking to fight this guy before he got the Chaz Witherspoon fight. That would be an easy fight for me. I would beat him so easily that people would say that he's not as good as he's hyped up to be. If he wants to do this, it will be my next fight.
BH – There's a good chance that Dan Goosen will read this. What do you want to say to him concerning this?
JE – Put him out there Dan. If you have so much faith in your boy, put him out there. If you think he's that good, let's fight. I doubt he will though.
BH – If you did get this fight, what sort of match up do you think it would be?
JE – It wouldn't even be a match up. I think it would be just a tough guy coming at me face first, getting laced up. I have been in there with stronger guys than him. I was in there with Lance Whitaker, and you can't tell me he's stronger than Lance Whitaker. I made Lance Whitaker look silly in there. Chris Arreola is a little guy compared to him; come on man, it wouldn't even be a match up.
BH – So you think you would eat him up on the inside?
JE – I would eat this guy up, regardless of where it was. Inside, outside, it don't matter, it's not a competition.
BH – If you get the call tomorrow, are you ready to go?
JE – Oh yes, I am ready, but I doubt I will get the call. I am ready if it does go down though, I will tell you that much....it would be on.
BH – Your last 4 fights you have looked sharp. When do you want to get back in the ring?
JE – My team is looking at trying to get me back in there sometime in July or August. I have been in the gym, so I am ready. My last fight I only had like 3 weeks to get ready for Witherspoon, and I don't want to ever do that again. It was a good opportunity to take that fight because it was on national television, so I took it.
BH – How do you grade yourself on your last few performances?
JE – I grade myself a B+ to an A- I think that I can do better though.
BH – Some of your critics say that you lack knockout power. You knocked the shit out of Whitaker in your last fight. It must have felt good to get a knockout on national television.
JE – Yes, it's always nice. The way it worked out was even better; I got my rounds in, it was on national television, and I got the knockout. I keep hearing people talking about my only having a few knockouts. Look at the caliber of people that I have fought throughout my career. If I would have fought more guys with cushioned records earlier in my career, I would have a much better knockout ratio.
BH – If someone were to pull up your record on boxrec.com, they would see that you have fought people with much better records than most do earlier on in their career.
JE – That's the way it should be to be honest with you. If you want to fool people, then pad people's records. Just like Chris Arreola, his biggest fight so far was Saturday against Chaz Witherspoon. People are being fooled by this guy.
BH – Do you think if Chaz Witherspoon would have chose to box instead of brawl, that he would have bettered his chance of winning?
JE – Yes, if he would have waited him out until like the 5th round, he may have even stopped him. Chaz is a strong kid, and Arreola comes in face first. If Arreola gets in there with me, I'll take one or two shots from him to see what he's got, but then what? He won't be ready for what I got in return for him.
BH – When you fought Witherspoon, you were throwing very nice combinations, and I think you surprised him by your speed. Do you feel that your opponents underestimate your hand-speed?
JE – Definitely, and when they get in there with me they are like, 'uh oh'. When Arreola was talking about the "oh shit" punch, I was saying, 'man, that oh shit punch wasn't so fast.' When I get in there with him, I'll give him an 'OH MY GOD WHAT AM I DOING IN HERE?' punch.
BH – Off that subject, have you been paying attention to the new Olympians this year at all?
JE – Only a few of them. I been following my boy RauShee Warren. I don't know most of them, but with Warren I am seeing some good things.
BH – Do you have any advice to the younger Olympians coming out this year?
JE – I would tell them to focus on yourself. Keep doing the things that got you where you are now. I understand that you have coaches and such, but just remember that you are where you are for a reason. Do what makes you comfortable in the ring. If you got there, you know what you're doing. Don't change up for anything; that is the mistake that I made. I tried to change up and fight they way they wanted me to fight, and it got me nowhere.
BH – Do you have any closing thoughts?
JE – Whoever has control over Chris Arreola, make this fight happen. I am tired of hearing about this guy. This was the first time that I got to see him fight, and I am not impressed at all. Are you willing to take a chance and fight me Chris? I am. I am ready to take that chance to fight you. To my fans, stay tuned, I am coming to impress
